I was anxious to take another trip to capture the Fall foliage in our beautiful State of Washington. Friends and I took two trips. One in early October and again in mid-October. The first trip we traveled on the old Skagit River Road that winds along next to the Skagit River heading towards Rockport and down to Darrington. I was able to capture the Fall colors reflecting in the river. The next trip we decided to travel to Granite Falls, but access to the Falls was not as advertised. The trail is steep and includes several steep staircases and I decided to pass, but my friend, Jan, navigated it and got some great shots. However, I was able to capture some other nice images during the trip.
The time of day known as "twilight" occurs before sunrise and after sunset. It is also known as the "Golden Hour". It is when the sun is below the horizon, but still shines on the lower atmosphere. Add clouds and it makes for a beautiful sky. We had one sky the other night here in Mount Vernon, Washington. This image was taken at 10pm. The sun had set just minutes before. The white lights at the bottom is the city of Burlington, Washington.
During the entire month of April, Skagit Valley is exploding with colorful fields of tulips drawing people from far and wide. I had a busy April with several art shows, so I finally took a trip out to the RoozenGaarde Display Gardens on May 2nd thinking that the tulips were probably through flowering. Not at all. Because we had a late blooming season this year the tulips were still beautiful. It was nice because going on a weekday and after the busy peak season, there was no traffic and no crowds. It was perfect for photographing the display gardens and the fields. I hope you enjoy some of the photographs that I was able to capture.
In late October 2017, Skagit County was ablaze with Fall color. With the crisp mornings and little rain, the foliage with their vibrant colors lingered for weeks. Mother Nature was showing off, and I was itching to be a part of it and capture the beauty.
It had been suggested to me that I should travel the Rockport Loop, because the Fall colors would not disappoint. Starting off in Mount Vernon, Washington, a friend and I traveled along State Route 9 to the city of Clear Lake and we made our way traveling through other small towns like Sedro-Woolley, Lyman, Hamilton, and Concrete. The air was filled with a morning mist and it was starting to lift. On the way, I spied a meadow of Elk, grazing with the morning mist as their backdrop. It would have made an incredible image, but there was nowhere to pull over. Yet, the journey was starting to look promising!
Just before arriving in Rockport, I pulled over and snapped this photo and I was grateful there was little...
